Atmosfer baku tepat 101.325 pascal sejak 1954, bukan karena diukur demikian melainkan karena diputuskan demikian: ia sebuah kesepakatan, bukan sebuah pembacaan. Hektopascal adalah milibar yang diganti namanya, dengan nilai yang sama persis: ia satuan peta cuaca, tempat atmosfer baku terbaca 1013,25 hektopascal.
