How do you convert TB to GB?

Multiply the number of terabytes by 1,000. That is the decimal definition used by drive makers and by the international standard. Windows divides by 1,024 and calls the result GB when it is really GiB, hence the 7 % gap.

Why does my 1 TB drive show 931 GB?

The manufacturer counts 1 TB as 10¹² bytes. Windows divides that by 2⁴⁰ and labels the result TB when those are tebibytes. You end up seeing 0.909 TB, which reads as 931 GB. The capacity never changed, only the definition.

How many films fit in 1 TB?

Around 250 films in 1080p at 4 GB each, or about fifty in 4K at 20 GB. For smartphone photos at 5 MB, count roughly 200,000 shots.

Should I buy 1 TB or 2 TB?

For office work and photos, 1 TB is ample. Video editing, recent games at 100 GB apiece and local backups justify 2 TB or more. Price per terabyte falls as capacity rises, so the gap is rarely double.

Does a 1 TB SSD hold more than 1,000 GB of memory?

Almost always. The chip carries 1,024 GiB of flash, that is 1,099 decimal GB, and exposes only 1,000. The 9 % held back is over-provisioning: replacing worn blocks, spreading writes, absorbing garbage collection. On enterprise models the reserve reaches a quarter of the chip, which is why they are sold as 800 GB rather than 960.

Why is video editing counted in terabytes?

Because shooting codecs barely compress. ProRes 422 HQ in 4K at 25 frames per second runs around 590 Mb/s, close to 265 GB per hour: under four hours of rushes fill a terabyte. The same film delivered in H.265 at 15 Mb/s fits in 7 GB an hour, forty times less. Storage follows the source format, not the running time.
